And We're Off!

Reagan and I are about to embark on a weekend girl's adventure. The two of us are leaving tomorrow when I finish up work to head to my brother's for the weekend. It's a much needed getaway! I'm sure there will be tons of pretty pictures to post. My brother lives outside of Summersville, WV, in Mt. Nebo. The trees are gorgeous this time of year down there. For those of you who do not know, my brother has a farm. He has cows, chickens, roosters, pigs, a Bloundhound, and a barn cat. Reagan loves to talk about the animals, but when it comes time to touch them or get remotely close, she flips. So, we'll see.

And another thing...
Can I just vent for minute? Of course I can, this is my blog! Recently, my profession has been under attack at my county of employment. I am not a person who expresses her opinion often, or loudly, and typically avoid confrontation at all cost (unless your my mom or husband :) ). However, the first time, was the beginning of the week by a fellow teacher complaining about three-year-old's being in the public school system. She had said just enough, and caught me at just the wrong minute, to really tick me off. I let her know it and we got in a very heated "discussion" during lunch. One of the comments made, was that I was not a "public school teacher" because I do not have an elementary school certification. No, I may not, but I still have certification for the public schools, just in a different area (preschool handicap). Needless to say, she has not made it back in the lunchroom the rest of the week. I think I scared her. I am quite ferocious you know!

The second time was today by the great spec. ed. director, who shall remain nameless. Now, I'm a firm believer everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but sometimes, why can't you just keep it to yourself? He went on a little rant about birth to three and univeral preschools in WV. He pretty much thinks both programs are a waste of time and money. This time, I did have the sense to keep my mouth shut. Afterall, he is my boss and I do need healthcare :) Not to mention my summer's off. lol

This is probably one of my personal soapboxes. I do not have strong opinions about much and tend to go with whatever, but my job(s) is one thing I feel very passionate about. I take great pride in what I do. I think that people who do not believe in the programs have not personally experienced that "warm fuzzy" feeling (for lack of better wording).... Helping a family adapt to life with a profoundly impaired infant; seeing babies take their first steps, speak or sign their first words; teaching a 4-yr.old the letters of the alphabet when they couldn't even recognize their name in print when you first met them... all of this and much, much more, and knowing somehow, you had a small part in helping them achieve it.
